Metals Digestion System

Approved by EPA for methods 3005, 3010, 3050A, 3050B, 200.2 and 200.7 & EPA mercury preparation method 245.1, 245.6, 245.2, 245.7, 7470, 7471 and 1631

Environmental Express HotBlock™ digestion systems provide clean, economical efficient digestions.

Made of Teflon®-coated graphite and other non-metallic materials, HotBlocks eliminate corresponding corrosion and the sample contamination. HotBlocks have been approved by the EPA as a suitable means of performing EPA methods including 3005, 3010, 3050A, 3050B, 200.2 and 200.7. The HotBlock is also EPA approved for Mercury prep methods 245.1, 245.6, 245.2, 245.7, 7470, 7471 and 1631.

Because heat surrounds the digestion vessel, less energy is required than traditional acid digestions with hot plates. Electrical energy required per sample is reduced by as much as 75%. HotBlocks are protected from runaway temperatures by the exclusive Safe-Sample™ feature. In the unlikely event of over-heating, an audible alarm in the HotBlock sounds and electrical power to the heater mat is interrupted. This prevents the loss of samples due to boiling.

3 simple steps in samples digestions

Step 1 (Selection of digestion system)
Environmental express HotBlock features large batching digestion,
96 (SC196) sample positions for 15mL sample size
36 (SC100) & 54 (SC154) sample positions for 50mL sample size.
25 (SC150) & 35 (SC151) sample positions for 100mL samples size.

Step 2 (Selection of digestion vessels)
HotBlocks use vessels are molded of clarified homo-polymer polypropylene assuring higher working temperatures and greater chemical resistance than the commonly used co-polymer polypropylene. Digestion vessels contain no detectable background contaminants and do not require acid washing prior to use. Other vessels for special digestion methods are available in PFA, Quartz & Borosilicate glass.

Step 3 (Filtering of digested samples)
The FilterMate S0401 works like a French Coffee press. Simply bring your sample to volume in the SC475 cup, insert the filter down into the sample, and remove the detachable plunger. Sample is now ready for analysis or to be capped for storage.

Stir Block- 15 Position Stirring HotBlock

When sample agitation is necessary during the digestion process, the SC155 is designed to stir individual samples all at a constant rate. Using a typical Teflon coated stirbar, the StirBlock can spin the sample at a set rate between 100-2000 rpm while heating. Originally designed for Hexavalent Chromium digestions the StirBlock has many applications for the industrial and biochemical laboratories.
